Outstanding education at the heart of the community

Headteacher's Welcome

Thank you for taking the time to visit our website and to find out more about us.

Tarleton Academy is a fabulous school and I am so delighted to be the Headteacher here. On a daily basis we pride ourselves in being a vibrant community that pulls together to ensure we get the balance right between nurture and support and stretch and challenge, so that all of us can dream big and make those aspirations a reality. Our school is jam packed with enthusiastic, positive and ambitious students and staff who are very much ‘one for all, all for one’ in every sense.

If you come and visit us during the school day we have no doubt you will be impressed by the warm, welcoming ethos around the school. Teaching and Learning is central to our thriving day with a forward thinking and highly skilled work force that promotes and expects ambitious aspirations for all our young people.  Progress for individual students, regardless of their starting points is outstanding, with students exceeding national expectations in both progress and attainment. All of our students are leaving us with better and better results year on year. This is due to a focused and personalised awareness across the school of each individual student’s needs and potential. We pride ourselves in knowing each and every one of our students really well and working with them to promote their very own personal best.

For our latest GCSE results see here.

These fantastic outcomes are rightly celebrated on a regular basis by students, staff and parents who work together to push hard for the best possible outcomes for our delightful young people. Our continued success is reflected in our continuous improvement and development in all areas of school life including the exemplary behaviour of our students and the emergence of our fantastic House system, established in our 2012. Capturing the spirit of the Olympic legacy our Houses are named after national 2012 Olympic champions (Daley, Ennis, Farah and Wiggins). This legacy is emulated by our students in their willingness to work hard, to seek and value success in themselves and others and in their determination to do better remembering that, as with our Olympians ‘better never stops’.  We are extremely proud of their achievements day in, day out. With all the energy and enthusiasm reverberating throughout the school we enjoy a vibrant, mutually supportive ethos with a real eye on achieving personal bests.

Everyone associated with the school is committed to continuous improvement and to a future that builds on current strengths while embracing the opportunities to grow and thrive. I am so impressed by the young people at Tarleton who have pride in themselves and their school and who are keen to be an integral part of this drive for excellence. We are firmly committed to ensuring that Tarleton is a school where everyone is valued, where quality is expected and which takes its role at the heart of the community seriously.

At Tarleton we believe that every student should receive the same consideration that we would want for our own children. We believe in clear boundaries, high aspirations, creative solutions and the genuine enjoyment that comes from the joy of learning and the pride of achievement and success.

In our school you will find an educational community dedicated to the successful development of each individual. Academic progress and attainment are extremely important to us, as you will find reflected in our results. This is due to a total commitment to developing excellent teaching and learning by highly skilled and dedicated staff, constantly reflecting upon and developing their own practice. It is also due to a genuine care for, and partnership with, our students and their families.

Pastoral support is therefore also a priority here. It is essential that all of our students know they are significant for who they are and who they can become on an individual level. We place considerable emphasis on developing the foundations of personal achievement, vibrant health and well-being, creativity and individuality. Our intention is to help our young people grow to become outstanding, independent, resilient and effective young adults, ready to embrace the challenges of an uncertain 21st Century world.

Personally, I am thrilled to be part of Tarleton Academy at such an exciting time, providing outstanding education at the heart of our community.
