Mrs R Critchley - Head of PE
At Tarleton we have an extremely strong school sports programme which works throughout both key stages to raise standards and aspirations of all our youngsters. We provide a wide variety of programmes which acknowledge the vision that the PE department has on the teaching and learning of every child. Our extra-curricular programme is rich with variety and provides opportunities throughout the school day with numerous clubs, activities and team events.
Our vision is to create strong links between both PE and other curriculum areas which will drive forward whole school initiatives and create further opportunities to improve teaching and learning within our partnership schools and wider community.
At Key stage 3 students complete modules in athletics, dance, badminton, fitness, gymnastics, multi skills, cultural games, trampolining, swimming, and volleyball. Games offered to students include basketball, cricket, football, hockey, netball, rounders, rugby and tennis.
At Key stage 4 students complete modules in Invasion games, Aquatics, Cultural Games, Exercise to music, athletics, cricket, trampolining, fitness, softball, tennis and rounders and more alternative activities such as ultimate frisbee, and dodge ball.
The department also offers GCSE examination course in Physical Education and Dance to students at key stage 4. The department holds a weekly ‘clinic’ for students to attend for any help, support and guidance.
At Tarleton we value leadership highly, this is reflected in many ways in the PE department. Students are encouraged to take on leadership roles both in lessons and in extra curricular clubs. We offer a variety of qualifications to our students including Young Leaders, Dance Leaders and a variety of sport specific leadership courses.
