YEAR PLAN

Year 9

Students in Year 9 study Drama and have 4 lessons a fortnight for the duration of the academic year.

HOMEWORK  OPPORTUNITIES INCLUDE:

Autumn 1

 

 

‘DNA’

Students study a full and substantial play text, focusing on elements including: characterisation, plot structure, set design and performance skills. The unit is designed to promote reading, improving speaking and listening skills and widening students’ cultural knowledge and appreciation of theatre.

In small groups, students will perform two contrasting scenes from the play text as part of their end of term assessment point.

 

November 2016 Theatre trip: ‘A Woman in Black’

Students will have the opportunity to see a live theatre production to deepen knowledge, understanding and appreciation of theatre

 

 

 

 

 

Practical Skills Assessment

Interim formal assessment and personalised feedback

 

 

Research into theatre set designs, use of sound, lighting, costume to convey meaning.

 

 

Memorising scripted lines and developing character.

Performance space

Students experiment with using differing theatre space styles, for example: thrust, traverse, site-specific and’ in the round’ to develop performance skills and use of proxemics.

 

‘Macbeth’ – exploring plot and characters

Students practically explore William Shakespeare’s classic tragedy, focusing on plot structure, characters, semiotics and use of drama medium and elements to create and sustain atmosphere.


Devised Performance Work

Students work collaboratively in small groups to create a devised performance from a given stimulus.

Students will perform their devised work as part of their end of year assessment point.
