Outstanding education at the heart of the community

Geography

The Geography Department offers students from all years the opportunity to enhance their projects and coursework at lunchtimes and after school by running a Geography Clinic. Clinics are held in teaching classrooms or the Humanities ICT Suite depending on students individual needs.

Also at lunchtimes the department oversees the work of the Eco-Schools committee. This lively committee of students from different year groups have the opportunity to improve the sustainability of our school, and also liase with other local schools to highlight the importance of environmental issues.

Students have the opportunity to carry out fieldwork throughout their studies at school. Year 7 students investigate the growth of Tarleton village, and the impact of recent housing developments on the local area. Year 8 students visit Malham Cove in Yorkshire to enhance their understanding of Limestone Landscapes. In Year 9 students carry out fieldwork to see if the new Liverpool L1 development has affected peoples shopping habits in North West England. In Year 10 students make measurements on beaches along the Sefton Coast in order to assess how well managed the coast is.

During Quest Weeks in previous years the Geography Department has also worked with the Country Rangers at Beacon Country Park, carrying out practical activities such as footpath maintenance, making seats and creating sculptures in the Nature Trail area.
