Outstanding education at the heart of the community

Music

The music department gives students the opportunity to develop a wide variety of musical skills and talents.

The department has a number of well equipped practice and rehersal areas as well as a fully functional recording studio. The main music room has Apple Mac computers running powerful music programmes such as Logic and Sibelius for composition work. Students regularly put on concerts and shows and hold an annual Talent Show contest.

Extra Music Tuition at Tarleton Academy

At Tarleton Academy the music department offers a wide range of extra music lessons. These are taught by a team of professionally trained musicians in our purpose built music suite. Tuition is available on the following:

· Electric Lead/Bass and Acoustic Guitar
· Strings
· Keyboard
· Flute, Clarinet and Saxophone
· Drum Kit
· Piano
· Cornet/Trumpet and a range of other Brass
· Singing tuition

All the lessons last for 20 minutes and are usually taught in groups of two, apart from piano lessons which are taught on an individual basis and are therefore more expensive. We aim to provide thirty lessons during the course of the school year. Because the summer term is affected by exams and work experience etc we will be aiming to provide 22 lessons during the Autumn and Spring Terms. Only 8 lessons will be provided during the summer term.

Fees will therefore be as follows:

Autumn Term £60 Individual Piano Lessons £70
Spring Term £60 Individual Piano Lessons £70
Summer Term £45 Individual Piano Lessons £55

Payment can be made by cash or cheque (payable to Tarleton Academy). This is due in the first two weeks of each new term.

Lessons are normally held during the school day. We try where possible to run a rotation plan so that students avoid disruption to similar lessons although this is depends on how many hours tuition the teachers are employed for. Students are expected to catch up any work missed and we reserve the right to terminate lessons at the end of each term if students are not keeping up with their general schoolwork or there is an issue with behaviour.

It is very important for progress and achievement that students are able to practise regularly. If you do not already have a suitable instrument there are excellent rental/purchase schemes run by some of our local music shops. eg. Music Cellar (Fox St. Preston) and Rimmers Music (Southport/Leyland). If you place any purchases for instruments through school you will pay even less. This is because the government runs a student purchase scheme to encourage development of musical talent and they will not charge you the VAT.
